New Poll: Momentum For Mike Cox In Michigan GOP Primary

“Republican voters want a fighter who actually wins. That’s why our campaign has all the momentum, while John James campaign is burning cash and bleeding support.”

LIVONIA, MI- A new statewide poll released on Monday June 15th shows former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox surging in the Republican primary for Governor, rapidly closing the gap as John James collapses. Republican voters are coalescing around a proven conservative winner in Mike Cox.

The poll conducted by MIRS from June 11-13, shows Congressman John James at 28%, statistically tied with Mike Cox at 27%, followed by Johnson at 23%.

Despite being dramatically outspent, Cox continues to rise. Mike Cox has spent approximately $2.6 million this cycle, compared to John James’ $4.4 million - yet James has dropped nearly 30 points as voters grow tired of watching him lose on the biggest stage.

"Republican voters want a winner who will deliver on their promises," said Mike Cox. "That's why our campaign has all the momentum in this race. I’m a fighter who has beaten Democrats statewide twice and delivered real results for taxpayers."

The poll marks a decisive shift in the race. After years of high-profile losses, more Republican voters now see John James as perennial candidate who can’t close the deal. While John James spends millions, grassroots conservatives are rallying behind Cox’s proven record and his fighter mentality.

"James is in free fall, Johnson is flatlining and Mike Cox is surging despite spending significantly less money. What this poll tells us is this: no amount of money can cover up a bad candidate,” said Communications Director Jon Shiner.

With seven weeks until the August 4th primary, the Republican race for governor has clearly entered a new phase. Mike Cox is surging, voters are abandoning John James, and the momentum is squarely behind Cox’s campaign to bring winning conservative leadership back to Lansing.
