Mike Cox: Michigan Should Opt In to President Trump’s School Choice Tax Credits
“Parents know their children better than any government bureaucrat ever will.”
Livonia, MI - During National School Choice Week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox today reaffirmed his commitment to expanding educational opportunity for Michigan families by opting the state into President Donald Trump’s proposed school choice tax credit program, a move Cox says would empower parents, strengthen students, and put families—not bureaucrats—in charge of education.
“On Day One as Governor, I would opt in to President Trump’s school choice tax credit.”
“Parents know their children better than any government bureaucrat ever will,” Cox said. “As governor, I will make Michigan the 21st state to opt into President Trump’s school choice tax credits so families can keep more of their own money and choose the educational path that works best for their kids.”
“Michigan currently ranks 48th out of 50 states in 4th grade reading. The status quo has become wholly unacceptable. For too long, Lansing has protected systems even while they fail our students,” Cox added. “School choice is about fairness, opportunity, and freedom—and Michigan should be leading, not lagging.”
Cox emphasized that his plan complements, rather than undermines, strong public schools by empowering parents and fostering innovation across the education landscape.
“National School Choice Week is about putting students first,” Cox said. “That’s exactly what I intend to do as governor.”
