Mike Cox: Michigan Needs To Declare Independence From The Big Utility Mafia
“Michigan doesn’t need another Governor who rolls over for Big Energy. I am the only candidate running for Governor who has fought the big utilities and won.”
LIVONIA, MI — While hundreds of thousands of Michiganders spent Independence Day without power, some until Wednesday, Governor Whitmer's Public Service Commission has spent the last year doing exactly what the Big Utility Mafia wanted: approving more than $500 million in rate hikes for DTE and Consumers Energy while Michigan families are expected to accept outages as the new normal.
"For years, Lansing has rolled over for the utility monopolies while they charge more, deliver less, and keep coming back for another rate hike. The whole system is rotten," said Cox. "I've fought big energy before, and I beat them."
"As Attorney General, I stopped $3.1 billion in utility rate hikes because I worked for the people of Michigan, not the utility lobby. I'm the only candidate in this race who has actually taken on DTE and Consumers Energy and won."
At the same time, Whitmer's Green New Scam agenda has put ideology ahead of reliability, leaving Michigan with a more vulnerable electric grid while politically favored renewable projects receive special treatment.
Governor Mike Cox will:
End the rubber-stamp culture at the Public Service Commission and stop unjustified rate hikes.
Appoint commissioners whose loyalty is to Michigan ratepayers—not the utilities they regulate.
Protect and strengthen Michigan's power grid by prioritizing reliable, affordable energy production that keeps the lights on.
Require large data centers to provide or secure their own power generation instead of shifting costs and reliability risks onto Michigan families and small businesses.
"As Governor, the days of Lansing serving the Big Utility Mafia instead of the people are over," said Cox. "The corruption, the cronyism, and the endless rate hikes stop on day one. Michigan deserves a government that fights for families, not utility executives and their lobbyists."
"I've been sounding the alarm on this for months because anyone paying attention could see where this was headed. While others weren’t paying attention to this, I was leading."
