Mike Cox Calls on John James to Return the $750,000 He Stole from House Leadership for His Governor Campaign

–Hundreds of Thousands Were Given by House Leadership to Retain Trump's Majority and Hold MI-10; John James Stole it for His Run for Governor –

Livonia - The campaign for Mike Cox today called on John James to return the $750,000 he transferred from his Congressional account to his campaign for Governor so that he can help House Leadership retain the Trump majority after James abandoned his swing congressional seat.

John James has been the recipient of hundreds of thousands of dollars in Leadership-led Joint Fundraising Committees. As of his last FEC Report, that number totaled over $400,000 in 2025 alone.

Congressman James was the recipient of bundled transfers to his congressional account because he was running for Michigan’s 10th congressional seat. This is money he would never have otherwise raised unless he was running to hold a targeted seat.

“It’s not John’s money. That money was meant for holding the House and the Trump Majority. You can’t tell me with a straight face that Speaker Johnson, Leader Scalise or Whip Emmer care one iota about raising money for John James’ primary for Governor,” said Brandon Moody, the campaign’s general consultant.

“But John James was dishonest. He fooled the House Leadership into raising him hundreds of thousands of dollars, and then moved it to his campaign for Governor. These are hard to raise dollars that rightfully belong to the nominee for Michigan’s 10th congressional district and James should return every penny he stole from the Trump majority.”

In his July 20th filing for Governor, James reports transferring $750,000 from his congressional campaign to his Governor’s campaign in 2 separate transfers.

A breakdown of James’ most recent congressional FEC report from House Leadership alone is startling. James took $133,000 in transfers from Speaker Johnson, he took over $100,000 from Leader Scalise, and over $17,000 from Whip Emmer. Moreover, hundreds of thousands more in donations came in from rank and file Congressional Leadership Committees - absolutely none of that money was intended for a John James for Governor campaign.
