Mike Cox: 750,000 Signatures Prove Michiganders Want Citizens Only Voting
LIVONIA, Mich. — Mike Cox today applauded the massive grassroots support behind the Citizens Only Voting amendment, which has now collected more than 750,000 signatures, clearing the threshold required to appear on Michigan’s November ballot.
“As Attorney General, I led the fight to stop illegal immigrants from getting driver’s licenses in Michigan,” Cox said. “And I was proud to personally sign the Citizens Only Voting petition because it’s common sense. Only American citizens should be voting in American elections.”
“More than 750,000 Michiganders stepped up to sign this amendment because they believe the same thing. Our elections should belong to our citizens.”
The constitutional amendment would make it explicitly clear that only United States citizens can vote in Michigan elections.
“This should not be controversial,” Cox said. “American elections should be decided by American citizens. Period.”
“Every vote cast by someone who is here illegally cancels out the voice of a hardworking Michigander.”
Cox said the overwhelming response to the petition drive shows that Michigan voters are far ahead of the politicians in Lansing when it comes to protecting election integrity.
“More than 750,000 signatures sends a loud message,” Cox said. “Michiganders believe their elections belong to citizens, not non-citizens and not people here illegally, yet Democrats in Lansing, led by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, continue to downplay the issue while advancing policies that would move Michigan toward becoming a sanctuary state.”
“Now the people of Michigan will have the final say.”
