Former Attorney General Mike Cox Slams Proposed Michigan Supreme Court Rule as “Sanctuary Courthouse” Policy

Cox: “We Should Be Making Michigan Safe Again — Not Shielding Illegal Aliens from Lawful Deportation”

Livonia, MI -  Former Michigan Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox today strongly condemned a proposed Michigan Supreme Court rule change that would limit civil arrests in state and local courthouses, calling it a dangerous step toward turning Michigan’s justice system into a network of “sanctuary courthouses.”

“This proposal is nothing more than a backdoor sanctuary policy. It tells federal law enforcement that Michigan’s courthouses are off-limits, even when they are enforcing the law. That’s reckless, unconstitutional, and a slap in the face to every law-abiding citizen who expects our leaders to prioritize public safety.”

Cox directly blamed Attorney General Dana Nessel and the Democrat-dominated Supreme Court for pushing a radical agenda from the bench.

“Dana Nessel and her allies on the court are trying to implement their extreme, leftist ideas from the bench, bypassing the legislature and the voters,” Cox said. “They want to turn courthouses into safe havens for people who are in this country illegally. That’s not justice. That’s activism.”

The proposed rule would block most immigration arrests inside or around courthouses, shielding individuals from lawful deportation while federal authorities work to restore order at the border and remove those who have no legal right to be here.

“At a time when the federal government is finally enforcing immigration law, Michigan Democrats want to sabotage it,” Cox said. “They care more about protecting illegal aliens than protecting Michigan families.”

“We need to Make Michigan Safe Again. I know how to do this because I’ve done it. As Attorney General, I ended the practice of giving driver’s licenses to illegals, making our streets and our elections safer. As Governor, I will put Michiganders first, and work with President Trump to Deport Every Illegal.”
