New Poll: Mike Cox Wins, John James Loses General Election

LIVONIA, MI — Following recent polling showing Mike Cox is the only candidate with momentum in the Republican primary, a new general election survey released by MIRS and Mitchell Research and Communicationsnow shows Cox is also the only Republican candidate defeating both Jocelyn Benson and Mike Duggan in a matchup for Governor.

The poll shows Cox leading with 32% support, ahead of Benson at 28% and Duggan at 18%.

In a similar hypothetical matchup, Congressman John James trails Benson by seven points, with Benson receiving 38% support to James’ 31%. Duggan receives 16% in that matchup.

The numbers reinforce Cox’s argument that Michigan Republicans need a proven statewide winner at the top of the ticket in 2026.

Republicans are ready for a candidate who can actually win and deliver results,” said Cox. “We’re focusing on the issues that matter to Michigan families who are sick of being ripped off by big utilities, big insurers, and a bloated, wasteful state government. I have a proven record of fighting for consumers and making government efficient, transparent, and effective.

Mike Cox is the only Republican running for Governor who has won a statewide election, and has done that twice, while John James has blown more than $200 million of Republican Party resources only to lose statewide twice.

If Republicans want to win in 2026, we need to nominate someone who’s done it before and not take a chance on a candidate who has already proven he can’t finish the job,” said Cox.
