Buss: Why Mike Cox joined the governor's race

Former Attorney General Mike Cox announced today his campaign to be Michigan's next governor.

Cox left politics in 2011 and spent the past 15 years in the private sector, which included reaching a $490 million settlement with the University of Michigan representing more than 1,000 individuals who claimed they were sexually abused by the late sports doctor Robert Anderson.

Now, Cox says he is motivated to get back into politics to help reverse Michigan’s flailing economy and abysmal education outcomes.

“People are hungry for change,” Cox says. “Growing up in Redford, just a blue-collar town, we were taught that we could do anything in Michigan — and the reality is we could. That reality has slipped away, and I want to do something about it.”
